Introduction
A great invention that brings matchmaking to the world of therapy, My Wellbeing is a curated platform for individuals seeking therapy. The New-York based company is aimed at easing the search for therapists in NYC and saves people time and energy in the process. With many therapists intentionally lacking an online presence, and for those who do list their practices on a directory site, My Wellbeing helps therapy seekers access them easily – minus the technical jargon.
The Product
My Wellbeing encourages new users to start off with a short quiz with their confidential questionnaire for a better understanding of their requirements. Once these are matched with their database of experts, a recommendation is sent out to the therapy seekers. Once confirmed, a session is slotted.
The platform not only cuts down on the jargon, but also explains the varied therapy techniques out there for those who are new to therapy or are unaware of the technicalities. My Wellbeing sends individuals one therapist recommendation at a time to reduce choice anxiety. Over 90% of the individuals they work with have gone ahead with the first match of a therapist. Following the session, feedback is taken from both parties to learn more about each of their experiences and to better the process.
Origin and Founding Team
When founder Alyssa Petersel was working at outpatient mental health clinics as a social worker, she noticed how many individuals looking for a therapist were simply overwhelmed by the process. From looking through options listed in online directories, finding out more about them to dealing with the lack of clarity around how therapists differ and what different psychotherapy jargon really means, it was a tough process.
She thus moved on to create My Wellbeing in 2017 with a mission to alleviate this stress people face. Her aim is to make the process simpler and help people get in touch with a compatible therapist. Petersel envisions a world where going to therapy is as normal, enjoyable and accessible as hitting the gym.
Performance and Trends
My Wellbeing was selected for the inaugural LaunchPad Lift Cohort, a 10-week personalized mentorship-driven program from Blackstone LaunchPad powered by Techstars. As part of the program, the startup also received a $10,000 grant to help grow the business.
